Contractor Boo Hoo - "to be or not to be ON time"

Happy Monday all! Yes, no matter what is going on ... every day is a precious gift and therefore a happy day! So, this morning just as I threw on my coat, placed on my sunglasses, grabbed my work bag (with client swatch samples) and walked out the door for my installation meeting (meeting the contractor at my client's apt to install kitchen floor tiles, assemble furniture, and paint) I get THE call.

Have u ever received a call that just by the ring "tone" U KNEW it was news u hoped not to hear - well I got one of those this morning! It was my contractor apologizing profusely bec. he was still working on a weekend project and would not be able to start my installation project today after all, and instead will need to start tomorrow. What's an interior decorator to do? ... tackle him through the phone and make him travel to the job site? Get another contractor in less than 1 day and review the entire detailed project process with him?

No. The solution - evaluate the situation and obtain our realistic options:

I have worked many times with this contractor and he has never let me down before, he does a fantastic professional work, is very genuine person, and with his apology added that he will make up for this timeline error judgement. I am CONFIDENT that at the end of the installation our client will be very happy. I immediatley informed our client that the installation will start tomorrow (he completely understood), moved several things in my appointment book for today and tomorrow, and am ready to start the installation project tomorrow (hmmm, maybe the weather will be warmer!).

The moral of the story - when things don't go the way it was planned - why focus on the problem; just simply obtain a solution. Sometimes in life we do not get what we "want", but I do believe we get what we "need".... and in the long run it was ALL for the best. Stay positive! Have fantastic week!
